Prologue

We are approaching a bend behind which we will find out that all this around us and in our name, had no meaning. Or that the meaning has an ugly face and is not ours. Similar to a robbed traveler, we will remember, but too late, all the crossroads where we made wrong decisions. And we will know that the meaning is the most important thing they have stolen from us. Therefore, for us here, the most significant investments are factories of meaning. Meaning is one of the most beautiful names for hope.
What we have been doing for years is not ”a light story in difficult times”. It is an attempt to create a great factory of meaning, deposit of hope. Be part of it. <

BELGRADE ON RIVERS, US IN BELGRADE
The Day When I Crossed the Danube
In the summer, near the very heart of the metropolis, on the city islands and powerful waters, real ”Belgrade Adventures” are waiting for us. Rafting underneath six bridges on the Sava, sailing around the War Island, entrance into the city on the Sava and Danube... Behind all this there are guys from organization ”Wild Serbia”, our old acquaintances from the of dangerous canyons of Serbia, and in front of everything there are you, who have not yet tried all this

Reminder
IN KIKINDA, BEFORE THE LAST SUVAČA OF VOJVODINA
Mill It Finely, Black Horses
All horse mills in Bačka used to be called ”suvaje”, and in Banat ”suvače”. Certainly, they are some of the most significant examples of folk architecture. The earliest preserved mention of suvače in Banat is from 1727. It is believed that they were present even before, because Evlija Čelebija in the 17th century mentions 600 horse drawn suvače and mills on the Danube near Belgrade. Of all of them only one survived and stories, customs and beliefs are still being made about it, and some might even begin to sing

ON THE MARGINS OF INTERNATIONAL REVIEW OF OLDTIMERS IN SOMBOR
Brothers in Hobby
They are driven neither by money nor by vanity. And they are not idle rich people. Love for these beautiful old guys on two or four wheels is for them very special and enormous. They have been gathering in Sombor for ten years. Now they have arrived from all over, from Switzerland and Italy to Montenegro. They brought their pets and their stories. They were hanging out and enjoyed in the fact that there are enough of them in this world for one big and jolly fraternity

THE JANKOVIĆA COURT IN GREEK ISLAM
In the Centre of Ravni Kotari
Stojan Janković, the famous Serbian uskok, received the tower and fortified court in 1670 from Venice for his contributions in the struggle against the Turks. From 18th century, a Serbian educational and cultural center is located here, with a valuable library , art collection, collection of icons and church books, and later with a school. Simo Matavulj used to tech here, Vladan Desnica lived, wrote and was buried here. In the attack on Krajina, in the last war, the complex was destroyed, but most of the collection was preserved. And it could be available to public again, after the ongoing restoration

Visit
ARAD, UPON MORIŠ, A CITY OF LONG MEMORY AND BRIGHT HORIZONS
In the Golden Serbian Mirror
On the joint between Krišan and Banat, near the Hungary-Romania border, cultural and historical threads of many nations are interwoven in this city. Today, after everything, there are only a few Serbs and many Serbian traces left. Serbian annals in Arad were written by Tekelija, Tabaković, Aleksić, Tenecki, Tapavica, Ivković families... Painters, writers, merchants, benefactors, masons, warriors… Even today, if you take the Sava Tekelija Street from Boulevard of Revolution towards Serbian Square, you will re-experience and understand many things

SERBIAN ARCHAEOLOGY IN 150 STORIES: SEAL OF KNEZ STROJIMIR
Sparkling of Early History
Serbia obtained the most important statesmanship object from the pre-Nemanjić period thanks to its Russian friends, entrepreneurship of professor Đorđe Janković and responsible approach of then minister of culture Dragan Kojadinović. The price was equal to two and a half meters of highway, but it is priceless

420 YEARS SINCE THE INCINERATION OF RELICS OF ST. SAVA IN VRAČAR
Vozar’s Red Cross
Many threads connected honorable Gligorije Vozarović (1790–1848), famous bookbinder and bookshop owner from Belgrade, with the memory of St. Sava. The initiative to officially proclaim this saint as patron saint of Serbian education and science, which happened in 1840, was started in his bookshop. Seven years later, in the place where, according to the legend, the ashes of the Holy One were scattered, Vozarović placed a votive cross made of red wood. It was visible from afar. An entire part of Belgrade is today called after that red cross. However, it remains unclear whether Gliša Vozarović knew much more about that place than we do

Pro Memoria
SERBIAN DUBROVNIK: BOŽIDAR ĐAJA (1850-1914), WRITER AND SAILOR
That Wonderful Horrifying World
He sailed oceans and gave commands in four languages. He sailed on his and other people’s ships. As the captain of ship ”Deligrad”, he helped the development of river shipping in Serbia. He knew that oblivion is a form of death. His six-volume ”Our Sailors”, an elegant, documentary and poetic prose, is kept in the Archives of SANU. His brother Jovan was a respected writer and translator in Belgrade, and his son Ivan was the third Serb in the French Academy of Sciences (after Ruđer Bošković and Jovan Cvijić)

CONTRIBUTIONS FOR ESOTERIC HISTORY OF ”MEDIALA”
Unsolved Puzzles of Ilija Savić
In its inner circle, ”Mediala” was a big metaphysical quest. Exploration of the most distant borders and the most dangerous paths. The most mysterious personality of the Mediala adventure was certainly Ilija Savić, a philosopher and psychologist, ”a mystic from the shadow”. He knew both ”med” (honey) and ”ala” (dragon), the bright and dark side of everything, the ”magic of extremes”. He had a decisive influence on Šejka, but also some other great names of Serbian art from the second half of the 20th century. He left signs on the road, but not the key for them. He left young and remained undetected

PETAR PAJIĆ (1935), POET, THIS YEARS LAUREATE OF ”DESANKA MAKSIMOVIĆ” AWARD
A Poem Will Always Find Its Poet
If the last century was marked by technology, this will be the century of a soul. When we fall,, God first shows himself through poetry and shows the way from the abyss. The new single-mindedness requires only from small nations to give up their culture, religion and history. In order to survive today, we must be artists. One can search for the form, but the poem must get there in time. And it always finds who will write it

BOGDAN OBRADOVIĆ, SELECTOR OF THE NATIONAL TENNIS TEAM OF SERBIA, EXCLUSIVE FOR ”NATIONAL REVIEW”
Do not Waste Great Gifts
One should not succumb to anonymous forum criticism or become spoiled with excellent results. We have something exceptional, a powerful simplicity and flexibility, creativity and a higher idea, a different wish. But sport is not a wild fruit that will survive by itself. It must be nurtured, systematically, with resources of a responsible state and effort of each one of us. Lack of funds is not an excuse, it is always possible to find the means

Chronicle
VRNJAČKA BANJA IN WORLD WAR ONE, A HUNDRED YEARS AGO
Mild Ointments for Fierce Wounds
There was no direct battle field in the famous health resort, but this town used to be a convalescent centre for some, a shelter for others, and for some people it became a new home. Serbian warriors conquered the hearts of many foreign women, mostly Greek and French, so Marsela Belimarković, Hrisula Stojanović, Adrijana Radić and others remained forever in Vrnjačka Banja. Many interesting people left a deep mark here in the war years, including Dr James Berry and Duke Lune

Energy
MINING BASIN ”KOLUBARA” AFTER THE MAY FLOODS
On the Difficult Road of Recovery
The thermal power plant now delivers between 40,000 and 50,000 tons of coal per day, which is about 50 percent of what was typical before the floods. Two out of four active mines have been flooded and they now contain lakes with surface area of about 10 square kilometers. Draining of the smaller one is currently in progress, and works on the bigger one will begin in mid July. If everything goes according to the remedy plan, the production could reach 70 percent of the former level by winter
